Ecovent communicates with the thermostat and the thermostat controls the HVAC unit. Ecovent calls for the thermostat to run or shut off the HVAC unit, and then controls the airflow once the HVAC unit is running (by the opening and closing of vents).
After replacing each of the standard vents and plugging the sensors into a standard wall power outlet, the control hub communicates with the vents to optimize the airflow for the homeowner's desired set temperatures.
