OUR MISSION
Exceptional talent solving the world’s
biggest overlooked problems.
Dipul “Dip” Patel
CEO & Co-Founder
Dip founded Ecovent in 2013 while completing his MBA at MIT Sloan. He leads the Ecovent team and has known all of the founding development team for almost a decade. Prior to Ecovent, Dip spent eight years at Lockheed Martin in program management, sales and engineering. He’s been chased by a hippo and bitten by a tiger, but still loves animals – especially dogs!
Yoel Kelman
COO & Co-Founder
Yoel met Dip at MIT, and after working on Ecovent’s initial business plan, he joined on as a co-founder to lead business development and financial management. Prior to Ecovent, Yoel spent five years working in financial and economic consulting in New York and Tel Aviv and was a “wearer of many hats” at PLYmedia, a Tel-Aviv startup. He doesn’t like to tell people that he is a CPA, but he loves trying new sports and activities.
Nick Lancaster
CTO & Co-Founder
Nick is the mechanical engineering and algorithm mastermind behind Ecovent’s technical development. He has nine years’ experience in architecture development, mechanical engineering design and testing, and control systems for missile defense, and he holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M and an MSEE from the University of Pennsylvania. When Nick isn’t building vents, he is spending time with his three children, two dogs, two horses, and loving wife. He also loves to play soccer and dreams of the day he will complete his Jeep rebuild.
Shawn Rose
CIO & Co-Founder
Shawn is the company’s information technology shark, leading the software effort. His last job was managing the weapon systems software development for Australia’s latest destroyers. He has nine years of experience architecting, developing and deploying software for weapon systems. He earned a BS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado and an MS in Telecommunications and Network Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Shawn is from the mile high city, Denver, and naturally grew up skiing the Rocky Mountains.
Scott Sawyer
VP of Engineering
Scott leads development of Ecovent’s cloud platform for data analytics. He taught himself how to code in fifth grade and never looked back. Before joining Ecovent, he researched scalable architectures for big data at MIT and developed radar systems at Lockheed Martin. Scott has been awarded patents for secure memory technology and a novel multicore processor. He holds a BSEE from Villanova University and MSEE from the University of Pennsylvania. In his spare time, Scott analyzes sports statistics and makes ridiculously awesome Spotify playlists.
Rene Chen
VP of Design
Rene leads Ecovent’s brand and product design efforts. She is an engineer-turned designer with a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT. She also worked in manufacturing for several years. Then, Rene found her way to RISD’s Masters of Industrial Design program and had the time of her life there. When she is not designing, she is most likely enjoying family time with her hubby, twin baby girls and dog Mochi. She is also a competitive Taekwondo black belt and was once on the U.S. Taekwondo team. If she has more time, you will find her in a maker space, a glassblowing studio, or a shooting range.
Thomas Frey
Mechanical Engineering
Tom joined Ecovent after graduating Northeastern University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He is responsible for the mechanical design of Ecovent’s vents and sensors and has taken the product through several successful revisions. Tom has experience in product design through co-op work at Analogic and Instron. He grew up in Kansas but does not know Dorothy. When he is not working on Ecovent projects, you can find Tom in the gym or working on his BMW.
Kit Will
Product
Kit is a product management monster and an experienced professional sailor. He’s applied his experience as a leader of men on the high seas and project manager of high-performance yachts to refine Ecovent’s product offerings and carve out a clear product roadmap. When he’s not fine-tuning operations in the Ecovent offices, you’ll find him sailing competitively or teaching his craft as a volunteer coach.
Matt Cialini
Full Stack Development
Matt is a recent graduate from Boston University with a BA in Computer Science. He’s helped design all aspects of Ecovent’s web presence, from user dashboards to the website and blog. Outside of web pages, Matt also helps push Ecovent’s efforts to integrate other systems through their APIs, while also helping the various components of Ecovent to communicate with the cloud. When he’s not coding away at his desk, Matt loves to game, watch movies, bike, and enjoy the outdoors.
Rob Carrington
Data Science
Rob leads Ecovent’s data science efforts. His primary academic interests are computational statistics and finance, and he holds a BS in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College. Prior to joining Ecovent, he researched statistical topic modeling algorithms for massive text data sets at MIT. Rob is passionate about music, especially jazz, and loves learning to play new instruments. Additionally, he loves running, sailing, and teaching himself how to cook.
Albert Tsoi
Marketing
Albert is responsible for Ecovent’s marketing efforts, from strategy to execution to analysis. Prior to joining Ecovent, Albert was at the Startup Institute in Boston, where he specialized in technical marketing and recovered from his addiction to jurisprudence. He was a business lawyer for eight years at a top international law firm and being a lawyer gave him an amazing lens with which to analyze challenges and opportunities. However, as evidenced by his six pairs of Warby Parkers, one lens is not enough for Albert and he needed more. He discovered that “more” through marketing and Ecovent. Albert received his J.D. from American University and his B.A. in Public Policy Analysis – Economics from Pomona College. When Albert isn’t Ecoventing, he’s usually CrossFitting or engaging in some other type of fitness related activity. He’s also passionate about ice cream, so yin yang.
David Pham
Community Manager
David also hailed from Startup Institute and is Ecovent’s swiss army knife — responsible for customer support, inside sales, and many other office responsibilities. His previous experiences at an email marketing startup in NYC and non-profit in DC has further developed his scrappiness and resourceful mindset for solving customer problems. Two of his biggest fears are Mother Nature and hungry people, but he isn’t afraid of attacking these hurdles head on. You can find him on Instragram at #HurdlingPham.
Rachit Kansal
Data Science & Mechanical Engineering
Rachit just graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He has his fingers in many pies at Ecovent. While focusing primarily on algorithm development and data manipulation, Rachit also contributes to mechanical design, has a keen interest in brand development and likes to push the boundaries of where Ecovent’s technology can be applied. When he’s not wired in, Rachit can be heard gushing about the latest movie trailers and Emma Watson’s beauty. He’s traveled to over 21 countries, loves photography and is learning parkour!
Alex Wang
Senior Mobile Developer
Alex is building the Ecovent mobile apps for Android and iOS. He has independently developed his own mobile apps in addition to apps for startups and large retailers. Alex likes swimming, biking, playing fantasy sports, exploring the great indoors, and designing high-end urban fashion collections.
