If you’ve ever looked into your attic, you may know that ductwork can be a total mess. That’s a shame because all that tubing is the only way to get conditioned air from your A/C unit to every room of your home.
As a general rule, the more ductwork that your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) contractor uses, the less efficient your system is overall. With winding, twisted ductwork, the conditioned air has further to travel from your A/C unit to each room of your home. That requires more energy to move the air, and there’s more heat transfer along the way. The result? All that fresh air from your A/C unit isn’t the right temperature when it arrives.
It’s no wonder then that HVAC ducting in Energy Star-certified homes is required to be installed without kinks or loops to help reduce energy costs. With good quality ductwork, heating and cooling your home will be much efficient, and you’ll be more comfortable. It’s always a good investment to have an HVAC pro install your system so that it’s set up properly behind the scenes.
If you see any of the follow signs in your ductwork, it may be time for a checkup:
- Loops or sharp corners. Anytime conditioned air has to do a backflip to get to you, it’s going to make your system less efficient.
- Gaps or holes. A hole in your ductwork is like a hole in your pocket. You’ll lose spare change on it every day.
- Oversized ducts. On a long run, ductwork should be tapered to increase air pressure and ensure that conditioned air makes it to the right rooms. If your ducts are the same diameter throughout your home, you may need to replace them to increase your efficiency.
And while you’re at it, ecovent can improve airflow throughout your system. We’ve designed our system to adapt to any ductwork—no matter how gnarly—so that conditioned air flows where it needs to go.
In short, our system adapts to yours to keep you comfortable.
